Hi Lonna,

Thanks for your post. Sorry to hear you have been struggling with your health for so long. Epstein Barr can trigger long term problems with an enlarged liver, nausea, headaches, anxiety and depression.

Fortunately there is a lot you can do with natural therapies to relieve your symptoms and keep the virus at bay. I would look at doing some gentle liver cleansing, adding some anti-inflammatory nutrients like ginger, turmeric, vitamin C and zinc and eating a pure, fresh food diet. For your depression and anxiety, some high dose magnesium and the B complex are good starting points. Epsom salt baths or a hot compress over the abdomen may be beneficial when your liver pain flares up. The help of a good naturopath or holistic doctor is advisable if you do not make good progress.

Best Wishes
Elizabeth

Two years ago, I presented with an painful enlarged liver and nausea. After going to the ER, following some pain medication, anti nausea medication, and an xray, I was released without a diagnosis. I at the time did not know if it was my liver, kidney stones, gallstones, appendice, etc. but there was obviously an issue. Following up with my family doctor, she saw that my liver had indeed been enlarged and sent me for a HIDA scan (results were negative, and the technician was dumb founded that I was even there). Hepatitis screening among other blood tests revealed nothing. Intermittently over the next year I would have random bouts of the same pain and nausea. The ER doctor insisted that I had a bowel issue and should see a specialist (although I had no problems). After going to the doctor presenting with swollen glands, general flu symptoms and a sore throat I was sent for a mono blood work up and finally was diagnosed positive as being a carrier of EBV. Although I have never had Mono, and still has the liver pain not been associated with EBV by a doctor, I have had flairs of liver pain when not feeling well, or coming down with a small illness. After much research, I myself have concluded that that the pain was related to EBV. I have had so many other illnesses that could be related to EBV- headaches (I have seen an ent and neurologist), depression, a recent and unexplained anxiety/panic attacks that put me in the hospital and off work for a month. Your research has been a windfall for me and been the first to explain so much after so much pain and frustration! I have been looking for so long other than the answer that I just have to live with this.
Thank you so much!
Best Wishes to you

Hi Tanya,

Sorry to hear your daughter has been so ill. It can be a very
worrying time. It sounds like her tonsils and adenoids are
enlarged - especially with the snoring when she sleeps.

I would recommend you get your daughter onto some nutrients to fight
the virus and repair her adrenal glands. For a child of her age I
recommend at least the vitamin C (2 - 3 g a day), vitamin A
(10,000 IU a day), zinc (60 mg a day), magnesium (200mg a day)
and the B complex (25mg).

With her history of antibiotics it is important to replenish the
gastrointestinal flora with some probiotics. Seeing a holistic
doctor or naturopath is advisable to monitor her progress.

Best Wishes

Hi John,

Thank you for your post. Sorry to hear you are ill with Epstein Barr.
It can be a very frustrating time.

Once you have had EBV, the virus stays in your body and can
relapse when you are run down or stressed. In about 6% of people
it relapses more than once.

Fortunately there is a lot you can do with natural therapies to
help your recovery.

Your priority is to get your immune system fighting off the virus with
high dose vitamin C, zinc, and vitamin A. You will also need to repair
your adrenal glands with magnesium and the B complex.

A low carb, high protein diet with lots of fresh fruit, vegetables and
pure water is important. Some anti-inflammatory foods and
anti-viral herbs will also help.

If your symptoms persist you may need to do some liver
cleansing in order to clear the virus from your system.

All these techniques are outlined in my e-book and have been used
with good results by many patients who have had similar conditions.
With the e-book, you also get free email support for 30 days if you
need further guidance on your individual concerns.

I hope this answers your questions.

Kind Regards

Hello Elizabeth,

I'm 28 years old and my symptoms have been pretty severe. My throat began hurting on it's own with no other symptoms. I went to urgent care and they missed diagnosed me with strep. The throat pain and swelling became so severe I didn't eat for 3 days and started having trouble breathing. I finally went to the ER and they gave me an IV with steroids and pain medicine. The tested by blood for mono, and it came back positive. After a couple weeks with the help of the steroids and pain medicine, the symptoms subsided. That was 2 months ago...

Last week, my throat started hurting again in the exact same fashion, extreme pain with swelling but no other symptoms. I went to the ER again and again, I tested positive for the Epstein Barr virus.

These episodes are extremely painful and traumatic for me. Is it common for this virus to keep coming back and giving me these chronic problems? Is it possible for complications to occur? Is there any other test my doctor should be administering to me?

I would like to know more about your book, because I think it would be a wise investment for me if this is going to be an on going part of my life....

Thanks,
John

hello,
my daughter is now six and just been confimed with glandular fever after three blood test over two years, one doctor - swine flu, and then a year of antibiotics and tonils removed where the surgeon believed she had glandular fever and here we are with her still ill, and getting worse each day. I had to push for a further blood test as the first two years ago was never for GF although it had been requsted the second at the hospital lost ! and third time a postive result. My daughter looks like death weighs less then my nearly three year old. She eats healthy and i also allow her to eat what she likes on the days she can not face food just so her poor skinny, bruised body gets some fat intake. I can put her to bed at five in the afternoon and she will sleep ( snoring very loudly] all night but look more tired then when she went to bed? She will run around for half an hour then lie on the sofa exhausted. She goes to school but has days/ weeks off. I am very worried that she has further complications ie ME ? I have searched every web page etc and proparing for a battle just to get my daughter who has been ill for two years referred to a pediatrician. I have three further kids one already had tonsils out and complaing of tummy ache all the time could she have GF and another due to have tonsils out as they are stopping her breathing again has this been passed on ? Kids are always sharing things, any advice would be great ....

Hi Landon,

Sorry to hear your nephew has been diagnosed with glandular fever. Glandular fever (and other infections like strep) can trigger nephritis or kidney inflammation although this is not common. The inflammation causes blood and protein to leak into the urine making it look rusty or cloudy. In the majority of cases this inflammation resolves naturally. Lots of rest, fluid and a fresh food diet will aid healing.

I hope your little nephew feels better soon.

Hello Elizabeth,

My 5yr old nephew is currently in the hopsital, and the doctors are saying he has glandular fever. One alarming symptom he has is cloudy bloody rust looking urine. Is this common? Have you heard of this in relation to glandular fever? Any insight about this would be great.

Thanks

Hi Camila,
Thanks for your post. Sorry your husband has been ill with mono. Fever is a classic symtom seen in the early stages of this illness. In some people it can last several weeks. Fever has a role in raising the body temperature so as to kill off the virus. Suppressing the fever with medication can just prolong recovery. I advise my patients to rest up when fever strikes. Drink plenty of fluids and if needed use a cool washer on the forehead to keep comfortable. Supporting the immune system with nutrients like vitamin C, zinc and a multi vitamin may also help.

I hope your husband feels better soon.

Hello,

My husband has been having fever for 16 days now. On his third monospot test, it finally came back positive for mono. He was hospitalized for 2 days. They did all tests and the only thing wrong is the mono and its consequences. The usg of the liver found it mildly enlarged, but very fatty. He generally feels ok, but the fever only goes away with advil. How long is the fever supposed to last? We dont know what to do anymore!!! Please help. Docs say its mono, the fever should have gone away by now.
