Glandular fever symptoms – acute and chronic
Glandular fever symptoms can vary from person to person in their intensity and how long they last. In some people the infection is very mild, and is often passed off as a cold or flu. In others the virus can be debilitating, causing the patient to be bedridden or house bound for many weeks or months.
Typical glandular fever symptoms include:
- Swollen glands in neck, armpits or groin
- Fever – ranging from mild to severe
- Fatigue – sometimes extreme
- Sore throat, similar to tonsillitis
Some patients will also suffer from:
- Enlarged tonsils
- Headache
- Aching muscles
- Poor appetite
- Nausea, vomiting and/or diarrhea
- Skin rash
- Abdominal pain
- Puffy eyelids
- Sensitivity to light
- Cough or runny nose
When the infection lingers beyond 6 months you may be classified as having the virus in the chronic state. Chronic glandular fever symptoms may include:
- Fatigue
- Muscle aches and pains
- Dizziness
- Numbness
- Brain fog
- Palpitations
- Weakness and malaise
- Sore throat, swollen glands and low grade fever may also be present.
It is important that if your symptoms linger, then you discuss your condition with your doctor or health provider. It is possible that another illness is contributing to your symptoms.
If your glandular fever symptoms have been ignored by your doctor or you have been mislabeled as having depression, bipolar disorder or hypochondria, then it is essential that you get a second opinion or a referral to an Infectious Disease Specialist who can run the appropriate tests and advise accordingly.
The natural treatment for glandular fever symptoms is to support your immune system with vitamins, minerals, herbs, an immune-boosting diet, homeopathy, essential oils and stress reduction. These therapies are discussed in the e-book “Nature’s Amazing Mononucleosis Cures” by qualified naturopath Elizabeth Noble.
