Epstein Barr Syndrome – Is It Caused By Stress?

Published by Elizabeth at 4:14 am under Natural treatments

The bulk of the Epstein Barr Syndrome patients that I see in my practice are stressed and exhausted. Many of them can pinpoint a stressful incident that triggered their illness.

For some people, the stress may be as simple as exam worries, having a spate of late nights or getting into an argument with someone close to you. For others it can be the stress of trying to make ends meet, holding down two jobs, the birth of a baby or the death of a loved one.

A classic example of a stressed out Epstein Barr Syndrome patient is a young mother called Agatha. Agatha has 3 young children and a busy job. She has just finished four non-stop years of breastfeeding. She is tired and suffering from muscle aches and pains, insomnia and full blown PMT with mood swings, headaches and food cravings. Recently Agatha was diagnosed with Epstein Barr Syndrome. It seems to her there is no end in sight.

After studying Agatha’s health history and discussing her symptoms I could see that her adrenal glands were exhausted. She has burnt herself out by taking too much on board. After questioning her on her daily routine I found she had no time to herself – she is selflessly caring for others but putting herself last.

The first advice I gave her was to make sure she gets a good 8 hours sleep, preferably at least a couple of these hours before midnight. This is when our bodies make good amounts of growth hormone – our body’s repair hormone. I also recommended she add some magnesium and Vitamins B and C to her routine. These are great for stress and will help manage her insomnia.

By ensuring she delegates or sheds some of her jobs, Agatha will hopefully manage some quality time to herself. By looking after herself she will be able to make a full recovery from EBV and bring up a healthy and happy family whilst enjoying her life.

If Agatha sounds like you, then you need to rethink what you can do to manage your Epstein Barr Syndrome and your stress. You’ve only got one body…it’s time to look after it!
