Chronic Epstein Barr – Treating the Liver

Published by Elizabeth at 3:26 am under Natural treatments

The liver is the most important organ in the fight against chronic Epstein Barr. Many cases of chronic Epstein Barr are due to the liver being sluggish or congested.

The liver is the largest organ in the body with over 500 functions. Its roles include detoxifying drugs, chemicals and toxins, breaking down hormones, synthesizing proteins, making bile to emulsify fats, maintaining blood sugar and storing vitamins and minerals.

Unfortunately the Epstein Barr virus that causes mono targets the liver and can cause disastrous effects on your health and well being.

Classic liver signs often seen in chronic Epstein Barr patients are yellowing of the skin and eyes, dark circles below the eyes, nausea, poor appetite, headaches and just feeling seedy or “under the weather”. A common sign of liver involvement is tenderness under the right rib. The liver may be so swollen that it actually protrudes outwards from under the rib.

Fortunately there are a number of natural compounds that can support the liver when it is under viral attack during chronic Epstein Barr.

Take glycyrrhizin for example. This is the active component of a root called Glycyrrhiza glabra. Studies show glycyrrhizin can lower levels of elevated liver enzymes like ALT. More importantly, glycyrrhizin inactivates viruses and inhibits viral production. Glycyrrhizin also acts as an anti-inflammatory and protects liver cells from further injury.

Long term studies on patients with Hepatitis A, B and C over 15 years found promising results with glycyrrhizin. Those on glycyrrhizin had a lower incidence of both liver cirrhosis and liver cancer.

Glycyrrhizin may pack even more of a punch when teamed up with traditional liver healing herbs like St Marys Thistle (Milk Thistle) and Red Root. St Marys Thistle protects the liver from further viral damage, whilst Red Root is a very powerful lymphatic agent, helping to drain the lymph system and improve circulation to the liver.

Adding a low fat, alcohol-free diet, drinking plenty of pure water and doing a regular liver cleanse will ensure you have the optimal tools to make a recovery from chronic Epstein Barr.

All these methods are discussed further in the e-book “Nature’s Amazing Mononucleosis Cures” by qualified naturopath Elizabeth Noble.
