Does the virus stay dormant in your body forever once you get it? Can you re-trigger it when you have another infection of some sort?
I am 46, have had fibromyalgia since 2003 after a severe abdominal infection (appendectomy gone bad). Just recently hearing about people who have had mono and later develop fibro.
Hi Darla,
Thanks for your post. Yes once you have had Epstein Barr, the virus stays in your body for life in a latent or dormant form. It can be re-activated during times of stress or when your immune system is lowered by another infection. The virus has also been implicated in triggering fibro, CFS and some auto-immune conditions.

Hello
My question is since I had mono like 3 years ago. Now I had a baby recently . Since the ebv virus stays in your body dormant then I can transmitted to my baby. So far he is a healthily 7 months baby but I am scare to pass it to him. Babies are more sensitive I really don’t want my baby to suffer the painful symptoms. I am breastfeeding .
Hi Carla,
Most people who have had mono in the past do not pass it onto their babies. Unless you are suffering from mono relapses like coughing, respiratory secretions and sore throat then it is unlikely your baby can get it from you. Breastfeeding is the best protection as it passes immune factors to your baby to help it fight infection.
